Declaration of Office
Every member of the council has signed a declaration agreeing to carry out the duties of this council in the manner prescribed in the council standing orders and statutory declarations, which changed in 2012. These documents are held in safe keeping by the district council monitoring officer.
A new provision came into effect on 1st July 2012, specifically on the issue under the Localism Act 2011, whereby existing parish council members had to make a declaration by that date. (Future members will have to make declarations as and when they are co-opted or elected to the council). The requirements mainly concern a Declaration of Pecuniary Interest (DPI for short) that a member may have. When a debate or discussion involves such an issue, a member is obliged to declare their interest. A secondary declaration includes that of an individual member’s spouse or civil partner and any business interests are noted.
